I grew up in Richfield and went to high school in Hartford.  I graduated in 2000 and continued on in my education at UW-La Crosse…go Eagles!  I graduated with a minor in Early Childhood and a major in Elementary Education.  I went on to teach kindergarten and first grade in West Bend, until I found my home here teaching first grade at Erin.  This will be my 2nd year at Erin School.  I started here when the previous first grade teacher retired.  I love this school district because it is a close community and the people here really know and care for one another.  The children, parents, teachers, and administrators at Erin School are always willing to help each other and do great things for the children at our school.

I decided a career in teaching was for me because I always grew up valuing education.  It was important to me and to my family.  If you are willing to learn new things, your potential is limitless.  I love that I get to go to a job where I get to see the people I work for each day…the KIDS!  I get to see children learning and growing and I feel I make a difference in the world.  I have always said that teaching is not a job, it’s a privilege.  I also love that I get to be a positive role model for children.

In first grade it is expected for students to try their best to reach the goals and benchmarks that are listed on the report card.  Some of goals include: completing work on time, showing progress in reading levels, comprehending what is read, reading and writing strategies, and various math skills.  It is understood that things might be hard for the children sometimes and children need to know that it is alright to be challenged.  The growth from the beginning of first grade to the end is very large.  I am there to help make that process as rewarding and individualized as possible.  The students and I work as a team to learn something new every day.  The environment is hands-on most of the time.  It is safe and fun and will hopefully prove to be a place that your child enjoys coming to each day.  Learning should be fun and children should be encouraged to respect each other and themselves. They are also encouraged to be themselves and have their own voice.
